SUMMARY:The Healing Power of Arts and Creativity
DESCRIPTION:Artistic expressions such as dance\, painting\, sculpture\, music\, and poetry allow those unable to discuss their inner struggles or triumphs to express their emotions by evoking emotions in others. Artistic endeavors involve creative inner forces and talents\, relying on imagination\, inspiration\, inventiveness\, and originality – and are uniquely human. The healing power of these artistic creations has a meditative quality that can bring psychological insight and relief from emotional distress. Together we will learn about how humans evolved to use art to connect\, enjoy shared experiences\, and create communities. \nLearning objectives: \n\nDiscover how mental struggles have been expressed in art\nUnderstand the relationship between art and the development of language and communication\nLearn about the healing powers of artistic creativity\nThe MIT Health Seminar Series are open to members of the MIT community\, along with patients who get their care at MIT Health.\n\nThis seminar takes place over Zoom. Please register in order to receive the materials\, even if you are unable to attend. \nIf you do not have an account on this website\, you will need to create one. For any questions or issues\, please reach out to the Community Wellness team at wellness@med.mit.edu or 617-253-1316.

SUMMARY:Yoga for Burnout
DESCRIPTION:Embark on a 6-week series designed around the seasons and school year that will cover basic poses with modifications for all skill levels. Come away feeling relaxed\, rejuvenated\, and more flexible! Beginners welcome! \nPresenter: Taryn Burns (she/her) is a Yoga for Performance Specialist (eRYT500+) based in Boston\, Massachusetts. She has spent the better half of a decade designing progressive programming for high performers\, from Division 1 teams and middle school students to Fortune 500 employees and private clients.\nHer work explores the intersection between the individual / organization by identifying key performance moments\, implementing yoga practices that efficiently and effectively manage stress\, reducing risk of burnout and optimizing performance. Taryn feels strongly that when we are able to take care of ourselves\, we are more prepared to show up for others.
